Along with deciding to build a waterform de, I decided to try a fire mage for the first time. I did some investigating in set bonuses and discovered that Byleth's set would be the best for fire mage. Now up until the present the mage has been my most powerful toon, but this guy's amazing! Get this, full set bonus is burning bones (just like the de gets with one of his sets.) The thing that makes this guy so powerful is this: the set consists of only 5 pieces, 2 of which are jewelry. Meaning, you can get a partial bonus benefit from other sets. My particular fave is the Amarris. Wearing 2 pieces (the belt and bracer) gives me 60% to defense (platinum).

So combined I have the Earth and Fire Magic bonuses at 12%, an additional 60% fire damage and 20% OW from the Byleths set PLUS burning bones!!!!! Amazing!!!! I keep flame skin on and any who touch me light on fire and begin their suicide. Then 1 ring of fire and blasto blamo, dead!

I run around touching everyone within my vision, then cast a ring, leveling rather quickly with this method.

And for archers or hard to reach baddies: the ever faithful purgatory, which also by the way, leaches :) :

So, for any of you who have not enjoyed the experience of a mage and think he's a weak toon to play, try this one. I guarantee a great, hot time to be had!!!!!

Great bulid omi. I love experimanting with mage builds and that one looks great fun, that byleths set seems to be the hadrest to find though. I did a mounted lightning mage recentley and got him to lvl 75 but found that the lightning arcing amount doesn't seem to increase much, at spell level 50 still only 8 arcs:( . Gonna see if i can collect some byleths and give your build a go, burning bone looks like fun:D

Gr8 job, I've had a few fire mages now and I'm currently working on an ice shards/ice ring/ghost meadow BM. He's doing good :)

Meteor/gust was my first mage. I loved him, but found that it was best to wear items that were of the rare type rather than a set for him. That was in plus. Not sure what bonuses would work in UW. My ice mage is amazing and is in niobium now, wearing Black Staff's mostly. Over all, this fire mage is the most powerful out of the starting gates and just keeps getting better. Give him a try :)

Solwymer's staff and rings is great for the mage. However, the Byleth's set has a shield so I had to look for a sword or 1-handed staff which would allow socketing and increased my spells. There are many swords out there too which help with regin on magic...so many options. Tips gave me a rare (yellow) dagger which does like 29 to fire spiral!!!! So pick up what you can and look carefully, sometimes even the blue items carry great benefits for a mage and other toons.

The ultimate mage will hold Lara's book/book of wisdom with guild shield and a mixture of different sets depending on the spells you use. Take a look at Jimmys mage and you will see why. Farm as many GM runes as you can, and trade for hours for the uber piece of armour you can find with +10000 shards;) At later lvl's the BM rules when built well, but if you dont find the items he can get weak very quick

Great post Omi! I'll tell you, after hanging with that toon, I have to say it is the meanest mage I've ever seen. That is one awesome build you have going there. I can imagine what one will be like in niob. You are the first person I have seen that went with bylethe's set for the burning bone (I'm sure there have been plenty), and I am impressed.

Have you seen the mug Dobster? It and the book are my 2 favorites to use with the mage. I will take a screenie and post it next time I am on.

Feel like making a build guide on this one?:D

Ok, here is a couple screenies of the mug. As you can see, for the spells it has, it is quite the item, and perfect for Omi's build here. Here are two different lvls of it. And it is one handed, so you can use it with shield. If you notice, it also has very nice resistances, so it is like holding 2 shields to go into battle with.

Wow. Never seen that before tips, thanks for showing it:) On my lunch hour now but can't stop thinking about building a byleths mage. Must stop thinking about sacred and fix peoples cars or we could start seeing peoples wheels falling off:D

Burning Bone: Fire damage treated like poison? (Like open wounds?)

Makes me wonder if Burning Bone can lead to self immolation (ie can it turn on you---like Open Wounds sometimes does)?

I have been wondering, is the any special Mage-staff for f.e waterspell? Or do all other BM-Magi sort under just ordinary "Magi".. I know there is some staff named BM litte staff of water, but it only ( so far) holds Magi and /magi spells in common and maybe some +1 ringof ice and some socket, the only staff I founded so far it fire spell 63% etc, it say "fire"..
all other staffs are just magic damage or /and regen spells, I might have been not just have the fortune to find any, but if there are not any staffs, like f.e 63% earth spell / or water spell , I will stop looking and make some other solution.

Metta: In silver, I have bought +7 to a spell equipment (blue). You need to shop for a while, but that is the max my BM found in silver. In total I had +48 to Ring of Ice, and +42 to Fire Spiral from equipment I bought at the shops.

I think +4 / item is max in bronze.

For gold: I have at least seen +13 / item to a spell, but haven't shopped enough to outfit my mage.

The stuff IS out there! :)

Hasn't been a problem with my DE (pm) or my mages. I don't think the self immolation problem is OW I think it is pain. Not sure, but my near death was due to pain anyhow.

Ohhh. Just checked out Byleth's complete set on SOIF.

Last entry: Chance of Open Wounds: 10%.
2nd last entry: Burning Bone.

Do these two entries appear at the same time (ie complete set) or can you have almost a complete set and get Burning Bone without getting Open Wounds?

Inquiring elves want to know!

Not sure, I'll check on that for ya!

OW and burning bone appear with the last set piece. I say again, I have never had any problems with OW, only with pain. Never had a problem.

Today marked Byleth's graduation to the heroes of Sacred. 216 achieved. This build was always fun and exciting.

Here Byleth poses with his faithful steed upon completion of his life's call.

And here's his log book.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y252/NaomiTaylor/uw%20pics/log.jpg

FYI, very few hours were logged in VOT due to difficulty with narrow paths and his fire spiral. But after about lev 180 he was powerful enough to face anything. Alternate areas for him were Zurag Nar, Korad and the spider desert. He also gained several levels in ghost cave while "shopping".

Thanks so much you guys....gawsh, it was fun! Now, I personally would like to see a Sera and a WE get to 216, then, if you'll look at who's who, you'll see DA will have at least one of each character at the master level...perhaps I'll work on my WE next...hmmm....sounds fun....we'll see! :)
