I've tried to make Aden's 3rd Wood Elf as strong as possible by early on raising his "Companion of the Woods" to level 36.

Aden's Wood Elf is also currently 36. It's a real killing tank but the problem is that when the Unicorn kills a monster Woody only gets 1% experience.

It kills monsters so quick in Silver that its very hard to level.

Is the 1% experience for Unicorn kills normal? Is he too high?

Any advice would be most appreciated.

This is the disadvantage to using the unicorn if you don't have high killing power yourself. If you are a magic user, try call of the ancients and thorn bush; if ranged, multiple shot and either penetrating arrow or exploding arrow. Having trade near your own level helps to buy equipment with CA skill/spell boosts on it too.

Actually, I've got a wood elf of each kind that can get into silver, so If you can let me know when you will be around (evenings GMT are best) I can pop in and raid bravemart for you.

Woody kills OK, that's no problem at all.

I just wanted to know about the 1%.

I read in a Wood Elf guide posted at Sacred that after the patch 1.8 Toons get full experience for Unicorn kills.

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be the case?

The 1% exp is to be expected. Not nice, but that's the way it is. The benefit of the unicorn is it distracts the mobs giving you time to take them on, but you have to beat the pet to the kill. His abilities to kill will decrease in the next difficulties.

Yes, you want to keep a balance between your unicorn staying alive long enough to be a distraction but not strong enough to steal your exp :) .

I started a new Woody for Aden and now she is at level 72.

Previously, Aden had another Wood Elf and I made the mistake of pumping up his Unicorn too high. So much so that when the Unicorn killed monsters, I only got 1 experience point for the kills.

However, this time I have made the Unicorn at around half Toon level, approx 32 and wow, the Unicorn gets almost the same Toon experience points for kills.

Further more - the rate of experience gained by Unicorns may not be related to Toon level but monster level.

Apparently, every rune read for Unicorns adds 5 levels.

So if you read too many runes the Unicorn level will be much higher than the monsters levels. This may account for poor experience gains.

I'll have to do some testing and see what unfolds.

Sorry. I missed this thread completely somehow.

When they were referring Unicorn level needing to be near monster level, they mean the level of the creature, not the level of the summon spell.

As you've noted, you get 5 Creature levels for the Unicorn per spell level.

So, you basically aim to have the Unicorn at 1/5th the level of the character...since monsters should spawn based your character level. It will be harder to keep the unicorn alive, but the XP should be optimum.

I would suggest Recuperation... you can heal your Unicorn... and it is a beautiful spell.

Happy Hunting!
