Okay...I have no idea why...but I have had this urge recently to build a BM who uses phase shift ALL THE TIME

Now you are probably wondering ways we can fit this into a build...and much less WHY we would do this...

I have been brainstorming slightly and the possible reasons I've thought of a BM wanting to use phase shift so often could be...
1. Positioning for spells and/or melee attacks
2. Quick escapes / use obstacles to our advantage / Quicker movement if Air Magic is kept at high enough level

Okay so now that we have reasons that we would use Phase Shift so often we must think of spells that would be better if we were able to position ourselves to use them to their best ability...

The ones that I come up with off the top of my head are:
1. Fire Spiral
2. Ring of Ice
3. Gust of Wind

Also, to make phase shift actually useful to use so often we know that we must have a high air magic...

This was basically a brainstorm that has been going through my head all day and now I'm wanting your help!

Questions to ponder:
Are there other reasons we would use Phase Shift so often?
Are there other spells that would be better if we were in a certain position?
Is it possible to get air magic high enough that would actually make phase shift usable over and over and over?

Hope this opens our minds a little,

A lot depends on the regen time and how long the graphical animation takes to run; if those are both reasonable it could be interesting, although jumps would have to be over obstacles or long distances to be worthwhile.

In Diablo2, the Sorceress had a skill called Teleport. It was quick to cast, and she could go through anything. So, she could quickly skipping through a dungeon laying down mayhem (and earning a ton of xp) while the others had to slog it through room after room.) TPing all the time really cut into your mana, but there were mana management tricks you could work.

I expect Ascaron wanted to prevent this type of powergaming, while still allowing the lesser form. (ie jump over a river)

So, the animation time is high.

I think if you combine PS with CoA you will have more success... though I haven't tried it. Would be cool if it worked!!!

Yes, positioning the character or spell is very important...but don't forget, your character is bait to the monsters...so you can lead them to your killing field with you as the bait.

Since your going Air for PS, my guess is GoW is going to be your main friend. :) I wonder what a phase shifting/whirlwinding mage would look like sped up? lol! Time to find out!

That's what I was thinking! A great whirlwinder! I mean he can teleport next to his opponents DISARM THEM and then tele out to starting killin! And whirlwind is attractive because it is also in the Air Magic section!

@Frosty: Does CoA really speed up the animation time of PS? Because if so...I guess that would be really good to use to make this more effective!

WW can disarm correct?

I'm glad I'm not the only one interested in this,
