As some of you know, I'm building a new Dwarf. My first dwarf, who is lvl 100 now, was intented to be a trader/forger so I invested 100 points each in trading and forging. I used to flame a lot with him so now I'm building a flamer with backup mortar grenade. I have picked Weapon Lore, Dwarven Lore (keeping both maxed to increase damage and decrease regen), Weapon Technology (further decrease in regen, not investing a lot into it though), Armour and Constitution (to stay alive).

Right now I have to more skills to pick (as I'm lvl 30) and when lvl 50 cometh, I will have to pick one more. I'm pondering to take up forging again (but not invest into it and try to get the Thar Eross gear that improves forging to reach Niob forge. I already received some high lvl items which I will need to grow into). I also ponder to pick trading again. But I'm wondering if trading is very useful if I don't invest much points into it (he will be flamer primarily) and boost it with items (Thar Eross items, socket +1 to all skills into forge/trade gear, basically stuff with lots of sockets). I'm pondering Agility for my last pick though I might take parrying as well. But I'm not sure, I have got my basic skills already so I'm trying to come up with a nice support mix. I'm pondering forging because I'm not levelling my old Dwarf anymore, he can go Silver-Plat right now, but I intend to take this new Dwarf all the way to Niob eventually, so having a Niob forge there would be nice as well (so I don't have to abuse Kery to go to lower levels to forge).

So trading is one of the others I'm pondering, but I wonder if it really pays off if I don't invest much into it, since I don't want to. I already have two skills that I keep maxed out and he is a melee dwarf after all, so he will need all the points for Armour and Constitution he can get once I bring him to higher levels.

Benefit of Trade skill comes only when Trade is compared to Char level. If you neglect Trade, then the quality and quantity of great items will decline.

Your call.

Have fun whatever you decide to do. :)

Picked trading and will work it up to character level as I slowly level. Might have to do some quests that give extra skill points as well. This means I will have three skills that I try to keep on character level. But with trading I hopefully will be able to buy gear that boosts whatever other skills I need most, either armour or constitution. Picked Forge Lore as well but I'm not going to invest into it. I have some Thar Eross stuff and will try to get 'upgrades' as I progress through the levels and difficulty levels. Not sure what I will pick when my flamer reaches level 50, either Agility or Parry. I intend to use weapon and shield over an axe as two items give more bonuses and hopefully more sockets as well so Parry might be more useful than Agility.

Thanks for the input.

i personally like my Niob flaming trader very much.
although i do not have trading maxed, i do have a higher lvl then my own (lvl 144 and 220 trading when i have my trading gear on)
it is Very usefull Imho especially since Niob (i think ) is so much harder then Plati and the first thing you need to do is buy better gear, which can be quite hard if your trading is low, Also the prices are extremely high and trading saves you a pretty dime. My full thar's luckily ensures my steady cashflow by selling any and all blue and gold items i don't need ( not to mention all those orla spears that drop )
make sure your flamer is defended as FT does not do 1 hitkill damage but is lethal because of the burntime, and thus enemies Can get close to you and hit u quite hard, Lifeleech is a must :D
hope to see your flamer on niob soon ( allthough it took me allmost 9 months ( lazy gamer ))

Heh, I doubt I get to Niob any time soon, I'm gonna take my time :) Jep, my previous Dwarf already taught me to invest into lifeleech heavily. Right now I'm constructing simple trading gear (regular armour and stuff with maximum amounts of sockets and then socketing +1 to all skills into it). I have a few Thar Eross rings that I need to grow into, but he should be really cool (or rather hot) once he reaches the same level as my other dwarf.

Well my flaming trader died, unfortunately. But with some major (shopping)help from Kery I have started a new one. He's only level 6 so far but I have high hopes. I have picked trading as my third skill but will not overinvest into it for now, gonna try to keep to character level with items for now. I will not pick forging for him after all, I have reconsidered on that. I think not wasting that skill slots and using maybe Parrying and Agility might be of greater benefit in the long run. I can always mule items to my forger if needs be, me thinks.

The only thing I regret is loosing all the stuff my dead toon had. Oh well, such is life and my toon will be even better.
